History of the Schacherhof

You find yourself in a very ancient farm house. The history of your farm is older than the one of the Schloss Greinburg - the castle of Grein and reaches back to the time when Grein became a town. The main wall of the living part was build in the 12. century. It belonged to the Burg Werfenstein as a Meierhof (1234 first documented).

  • 1488: emperor Friedrich sold the Burg Werfenstein to the brothers Prüschenk; in the same year they build the Greinburg (under the name Stettenfels, later Heinrichsburg)

  • from 1533: name Greinburg; the sevants of Burg Werfenstein became servants of the Greinburg and remaind till 1848 (Hans Kudlich)

  • bevor 1529: the Meierhof was abandoned; First owner of the Schacherhof : Hans am Schacherhof

  • since 1804: in family possession

  • 1848: First independent farmer Johann Baptist Geirhofer; since the existence of the farm in the 13. century the people on the Schacherhof live off the land. There have been good and bad times.

  • 2010: part of the farm has been converted to holiday apartments; and so we also invite you to take part in writing history.
